Dolphins 2012 Player Review: Randy Starks

It was a tail of two seasons for the 9 year defensive linemen out of Maryland. Starks was playing some of the best football of his career for the first seven games of the season, but then slowly started to fall off later in the season.

seven games into the season Starks was a key player in a Miami Dolphins run defense that was in the top 5 in rushing. He had 11 tackles, 3.5 sacks and even an interception.  He was playing top notch football that got him defensive player of the week honors after the win against the Bengals.

Things were going great for Randy, but it seemed like he started to slow his play down as the year went on. Over the last 9 games he only had 7 tackles and only 1 sack.

It is hard to tell what the issue was but I have a feeling that being in the trenches for nine years may be starting to catch up to Starks. If he continued to play at the same level he did the first seven games he would easily be one of the better linemen in the game.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens to Starks in the next few months. I am not too sure Starks will be a Dolphin next season. Starks is going to want a big contract for his play at the start of the season. I do not think the Dolphins will look into resigning him if he is asking for too much.

But overall Starks did have a good season and that is why his grade for the year is a B+.
