As many Miami Dolphins fans will tell you, Pat White was a huge mistake. Doesn’t matter if you believe the reports that Bill Parcells took the kid or if you believe that Bill Parcells tried to clean his image by passing that responsibility to Jeff Ireland. Regardless of who pulled that trigger, it was a big time 2nd round mistake. The Dolphins quickly realized that mistake and a year later shipped him out.
Pat White landed nowhere. Eventually he turned his attention to Major League Baseball where he quickly washed out and disappeared into the abyss of college stars who couldn’t find the same on the next level. Now, Pat White is back. Almost.
According a radio station in Orlando, Fl., White has an offer in hand to join the Miami Marlins. If accepts he will giving baseball another shot and will be trying out with the team this spring. Of course that depends on whether or not he rejoins the NFL. Last week White was shaking hands and rubbing elbows at the Senior Bowl practices letting anyone who would listen know that he wants another shot.
White will not likely find many NFL takers so it’s likely in his best interest to take the Marlins offer. Miami fans would very much like to someone else offer him anything just so they can forget the blunder made in 2010. While Pat White has a lot of talent physically, he lacks the mental ability and maturity to understand how to use that talent. Perhaps maybe a few years away from the game did him some good, or maybe he just needs the money and knows that the biggest payday isn’t selling coke bottles at a 7-11 (no I have no idea if he ever worked at a 7-11) but instead in major league sports where even a signing bonus equals most average American yearly salaries.
