The former Dallas assistant coach who left for greener pastures to be the Chicago Bears head coach, who left after ruining their franchise to take an assistants job with the Dolphins and then got promoted to Head Coach who then left after he he ruined the franchise to take a job as the Pitt head coach to do nothing with their college and then returned to the NFL with the Buffalo Bills to be a defensive coordinator only to get fired has now landed back in the coaching ranks of the NFL. WHEW! Talk about one long run-on sentence. (Frankly I wanted to get all of his past out of the way to make room to talk about his future).
Yes, we are talking about Dave Wannstedt who remains ironically the winningest coach in Dolphins history not named Don Shula. Wannstedt who has been canned from more coaching jobs than chicken in a Campbell’s soup factory landed on his feet this week when he was hired to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers special teams coach. Yes, I said “special teams” coach.
It’s a far fall for a coach who served two HC tours in the NFL and one in college as well as a defensive coordinator with a team who’s defense on paper was supposed to be very good. I suppose the two biggest things to take away from this is 1: the news for Miami is slow right now and 2: Don’t take the Tampa special teams in fantasy football next year.
