Mike Wallace is a big time threat on the outside and an off-season with Ryan Tannehill should be interesting. There is no question that Jeff Ireland got the guy he wanted. The Dolphins needed play makers coming into today’s free agency, and while Wallace is exactly that, the question is he enough?
The Dolphins made a bigger splash when they surprised everyone and landed Dannell Ellerbe but Ellerbe, as well as just announced LB Phillip Wheeler, don’t touch the ball. Miami still needs more on offense and the Dolphins haven’t really touched the holes on their team.
Wallace filled the most obvious need but there still is no one lining up at RG or RT or more importantly TE. Defensively the team has swapped out Karlos Dansby and possibly Kevin Burnett or Koa Misi for Ellerbe and Wheeler. Yet there has been no rumors of a corner-back, safety, or pass rushing OLB/DE.
There is no question that on paper this team is improved but are they ready to tackle the top of the division? That remains to be seen and the Dolphins still have a lot of work to do and some money to spend. How this plays out will be anyone’s guess but the good news is this is simply day 1 and as frenzied as it was, there is still a lot of days left between now and the end of free agency.
