Dolphins Let Keller, Bennett Walk

The Miami Dolphins entered the day with high hopes and ended it with nothing.  Entertaining DE Michael Bennett and TE Dustin Keller, the Dolphins opted to let both men leave but in different manners.

Dustin Keller simply walked out the door and headed home, the Dolphins apparently not willing to give him a multi-year deal.  It was rumored shortly after that his brother said he was seeking more of a Jared Cook type contract.  The two sides agreed to keep the channels open.

In the case of Michael Bennett, he left Miami with a one year deal worth 5 million dollars with the Seattle Seahawks.  It’s not known whether or not the Dolphins offered Bennett a deal or if negotiations came close enough to talk seriously.  Regardless, Bennett is in Seattle and the Dolphins are moving on.

One common train of thought is that the Dolphins are waiting for Jake Long to make his decision, apparently the Dolphins are still hoping to bring him back.  If that is the case, then the team will likely lose out on RT Eric Winston who has spoke with the Dolphins as well.  Winston would be more than capable of handling the right side of the line with Jonathan Martin on the left.

The team however has still not looked at cornerbacks despite the crowded market and low price tag.  Earlier they watched Sean Smith sing with Kansas City.  While many surmise that the Dolphins are in good shape with their draft picks come April, they are still thin and need to find players.  It appears that at this time Jeff Ireland may be shopping for bargains.

The NFC is becoming a Huge power house on D. The Dolphins secondary is becoming a fragile situation

    • Sean O’Reilly

Fragile how? Cause we lost one player? Listen there is still a whole offseason left so the big picture is not in focus yet

      • Derrick Frazier

He obviously doesnt know much sean we are in decent position at this point with 5picks in the first 3rounds

Just thought i would throw this out there dolphins offered a good contract and money to keller but keller wants jared cook like money which is very less likely to happen on anybodys team at his age.which is why he decided to stay in contact with miami if he could not get that “jared cook” type of deal elsewhere.

I think the fins signed who they wanted to sign and were willing to pay through the teeth for. I think JCook was probably the one guy they would have locked up if they could have but even he had some questions as far as i was concerned. The rest will be signed if they can get a good value or make sense in the bigger financial picture. So far, I’m pretty damned pleased with what lreland has done.

Wide reciever was a need we filled that with wallace. We fixed line backing corps getting faster and more versatile especially because they can can cover tight ends we also saved money with those signings we still have loads of money but no need to jus spend it all now when the draft is up and coming we could fill our voids. 5 picks in the first 3 rounds we could even trade down for multiple picks im not mad. But yes we do need atleast 1 more signing in positions of need right now. Major needs te cb and rt minor need rg. Pass rusher is also minor need with the versatility of the linebackers we signed but andding a pass rusher can allow our defens to be great. Also dont forget cb richard marshall played well before goin out with back injury he was better than vontae davis taking his starting job. Smith isnt better then him either and is inconsistent.

Fins need TEs and CBs. I know we have plenty of draft picks but more vets are still needed on o-line as well as corner and tight end. But atleast we have added some firepower. Who cares if we overpaid cause we needed wallace badly to keep defenses honest and open the field more. Lamar miller will break out next year tho…WATCH n see!

If you want Miller to break out the Dolphins also really need a Guard who can pull. John Jerry was about the worst run blocker in the NFL last year.
