Well, that didn’t take long. Yesterday Dustin Keller left the Miami Dolphins training facility after the team refused to give him a deal with more than one year attached to it. The Dolphins opened up the day inquiring about Dennis Pitta the TE from Baltimore. A short time later, Dustin Keller is a Miami Dolphin on a one year deal. See how things happen in the NFL?
It’s also funny how many fans who only a day earlier criticized Jeff Ireland for not making any more big moves after letting Michael Bennett leave Miami for Seattle were whistling a completely different tune this afternoon.
Keller is a big time pass threat TE but he is not a blocking TE. He is also seriously crippling a division rival, but the one year deal speaks volumes regarding the NFL Draft. Miami will almost assuredly address the TE position this April. While it’s not likely going to be Tyler Eifert at number 12, they could go after San Diego States Gavin Escobar.
Regardless, the Dolphins no long have a crippling need at the position entering the season and the Jets do. His contract is rumored to be in the 4 million dollar range.
