Remembering Pat Summerall

At the age of 82, Pat Summerall died today.  For 22 years he sat beside John Madden and when he retired Summerall kept his seat next to Madden as a voice on Maddens EA Sports NFL video game.

Summerall was a lot of things, a former NFL player, a recognized sports announcer, and according to those that knew him personally, a great human being.  Summerall is remembered by many as a man who took the time to talk to fans.  Took the time to shake a hand.  Took the time.  Period.

For all of his accomplishments his most recognizable trait was unmistakably his voice.  Summerall’s voice was so prominent and recognized for so long that one couldn’t listen to John Madden without hearing his partners voice.

Summerall leaves behind a legacy that won’t soon be forgotten.  Even by a generation of fans who never heard him call a game live.
