The Miami Dolphins have signed Florida kicker Caleb Sturgis, LB Jelani Jenkins, and CB Don Jones. The team also added former USC QB Aaron Corp. Corp previously was on the Buffalo Bills roster and spent some time with the Cowboys as well. He will be the 4th QB on the roster for training camp and is viewed purely as a developmental player.
The signing of the three rookies is hardly earth shattering although other teams have nearly completed their rookie contracts. The implemented rookie wage scale makes signing draft picks much easier than in previous years as all of the slotting is scaled.
Sturgis will give Dan Carpenter a run for his money, which ironically could be less. The Dolphins will likely ask Carpenter to take a pay cut at some time or release him outright if he refuses. That of course will hinge on the ability of Sturgis to make clutch kicks throughout mini-camps, training camp, and pre-season.
Jelani Jenkins is expected to make a big impact on special teams out of the starting gate and Don Jones will compete in the secondary for a roster position.
