When the name Will Davis was announced during the 3rd round of Aprils’ draft many fans booed the selection. The Dolphins had traded out of round three completely and then opted to trade back into the round to select Davis. Many thought Davis would have been available with their next selection. Regardless today he is officially a Miami Dolphin after signing his rookie contract. Details are not yet known but it will be a four year deal.
Viewed as project, Jeff Ireland believes that he will be a perfect fit with Kevin Coyle’s defense. Coyle has a knack for getting corners to play above their talent level and get rookies playing up to speed earlier than most.
“I think guys develop in different stages in their career,” Ireland said after the selection of Davis, according to the club. “Obviously with his experience level you would think that he may be a little bit of a developmental player, but I think the guy has the skill set to play in this league. I think that with the great coaching that we have and the players around him, he will develop fast.” – from ProFootballTalk.com
In Miami the former Texas A&M corner will compete with returning Richard Marshall and free agent pick-up Brent Grimes. He will also compete against fellow rookie corner Jamar Taylor.
