The Miami Dolphins are still looking at their roster and apparently feel they can improve it. 2012 4th round TE Evan Rodriguez is now a Dolphin. The Phins claimed the talented but troubled TE off waivers from the Bears.
Evans who’s off-field concerns dropped him to round four of the 2012 draft was arrested last month on a DUI charge. His second run-in with the law in two months. The Bears released him yesterday. While at West Virginia prior to his move to Temple University, he was arrested for a disturbance and trespassing infraction and then while at Temple was arrested prior to the draft for disorderly conduct. All were misdemeanors. The DUI is his first offense while in the NFL and will not meet with a suspension.
Evans is 6’4″ and compares himself to Aaron Hernandez of the Patriots. The Bears felt very strongly about Evans potential a year ago. Evans however only had one reception in 16 games. For Miami the decision to bring in Evans for a look is an easy one. If he works out and realizes this may be his final opportunity, then the Dolphins are getting a very solid TE with a lot of potential. If he doesn’t or continues to get into any kind of trouble the Dolphins can let him go with no worries.
It’s a win-win situation for Jeff Ireland and the Dolphins.
