In two days, yes two days, the Miami Dolphins will open training camp…feel free to exhale long and with a huge grin across your face. Football season is back! Unfortunately, the Dolphins will not be entertaining a FB competition between former Baltimore Raven FB Vonta Leach and current FB Javorskie Lane. For now.
According to the Miami Herald the Dolphins have decided not to extend a contract offer the former Raven who is 32 years old. The All-Pro veteran was reportedly seeking a multi-year deal and the Dolphins only had interest in a one year contract. There has been no speculation on the amount of money that may have been discussed. In the over all scheme of things the Dolphins may be better served allowing Lane to ride out his second season and see what he can contribute. A bruising runner when he has the ball and solid hands in the passing game, Lane needs to work on his pass protection blocking. Something that Leach is very good at.
Training camp is a long period of several weeks so it’s likely the Dolphins could revisit the negotiating table and if they do it’s likely they will offer more than a one year deal but for now Leach will not be starting camp in the Dolphins new uniforms.
