Dolphins Jerry/Sturgis Sit Injured

The Miami Dolphins are one day shy of one week of training camp and today saw two players they are counting on take a seat in practice.  RG John Jerry and rookie 5th round pick Caleb Sturgis.  Jerry missed practice with an unknown injury that forced the Dolphins coaches to get creative along the offensive line.

With Jerry out, the Dolphins opted to move Ritchie Incognito to the RG position and then moved 3rd round rookie guard Dallas Thomas to the LG position to pair with Jonathan Martin.  Lance Louis the free agent RG signed after being released by the Chicago Bears is still getting healthy.  The move has shaken up a line that is still a big question mark.  So far this TC the line has been subjected to an overpowering defense hell bent on increasing their turnover production.  Jerry reported to camp at his expected weight and in condition according to team reports.

While the Phins try and piece meal their line play they faced with another injury at the kicker position that could force the team to consider keeping two kickers.  5th round pick Caleb Sturgis sat out today’s practice with a groin injury of an unknown degree.  The injury will give Dan Carpenter more time to promote his worth to the team.  It’s still a long shot for the team to opt for Carp’s 3 million plus salary over the below million dollar hit of Sturgis but it should be pointed out that Sturgis hasn’t exactly been perfect this TC.  Not that Carp has.  Regardless of their accuracy issues, the Dolphins find their two many showdown down to one for the time being.

In other news, RT Tyson Clabo will now where number 77 previously worn by Jake Long.
