Earlier tonight it was reported that the Miami Dolphins and Pro-Bowl safety Reshad Jones agreed to a contract extension that will keep Jones in a Phins uniform for another four seasons. The deal is worth $30 million. For the Dolphins, this is a move that makes tons of sense. Jones, who just finished his third season in a Dolphins uniform had a much improved year.
In his third season as a NFL safety, Reshad Jones recorded career best in multiple categories. His 94 combined tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 4 interceptions was enough to propel Jones as one of the best young players in the league.
It is good to see the Dolphins ink a young player, who, in four years can be a true NFL superstar. Hopefully Jones can continue this high level of play, as he will be one of the key pieces on this dominate defense. This contract shouldn’t come to a surprise to anyone, as Jones has skipped offseason activities in hopes of receiving a new contract. The new contract that was given to Jones was definitely earned. Thumbs up on Reshad’s part for his vast improvement, but an even bigger thumbs up to Jeff Ireland and the rest of the front office on getting this deal done.
