Last night the Dolphins lost to the Cowboys 24-20 but there are a few good things to take away from last nights game, but there are also some things Miami fans should be concerned about.
Studs: Keenan Davis and Chad Bumphis. With Miami in need of a number four wide receiver these two made the most of their chances. Bumphis caught 5 passes for 85 yards while Davis caught three passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.
The running backs also had a solid night. On the first play of the game Lamar Miller fumbled, but after that he had two carries for 21 yards. Mike Gillslee and Jonas Gray also had decent nights. Gillslee had 7 carries for 21 yards, Gray who was the running back for the second half finished with 7 carries for 41 yards.
On Defense Dion Jordan and Derrick Shelby came to play. Shelby finished with two sacks on which he manhandled the linemen on his way to the quarterback. Jordan looked like a stud, he only had two tackles but he was always involved in the play. He was able to get around linemen, or run through them, he also looked good when dropping back in coverage.
Duds: Miami’s left tackles. Jonathan Martin and Dallas Thomas got beat bad. Left tackle is clearly still Miami’s weakest position, neither could get a consistent drive strung together.
Miami’s turnover ratio at the end of the night was a -2. The Miller Fumble and a Tipped Matt Moore pass was the reason the Dolphins lost the game, as both lead to touchdowns for the Cowboys. Miami was able to force a fumble, but after rolling through about four defenders hands, it was recovered by the Cowboys for a ten yard gain.
It’s only the preseason but it is clear that five games will be good this year for Miami, they have a few questions they still need to solve before the season begins.
