Dolphins Fans Ranked 29th Worst Fans In Study

Somehow it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the Miami Dolphins fan base is ranked so low.  A decade of losing, poor coaching, poor drafting, no franchise QB since Dan Marino, and of course years of misery from the front office has left the fan base with a bitter pill.  Regardless of whether you are a Jeff Ireland supporter or hater the Dolphins didn’t simply drop to 29 overnight nor did they fall simply in the past four years that Ireland has been at the helm.  Their fall dates back to Dave Wannstedt.

According to TicketCity.com Miami comes in 29th on their list of most engaged fans.  Putting them above Kansas City, St. Louis, and Tampa who finished dead last and just below Jacksonville, Oakland and Cleveland.

You can visit the site to see how they got their numbers and while I don’t discount the fact that Miami fans are not exactly engaged I do find it flawed that Kansas City and Cleveland are ranked so low as is Oakland.

I think fans who live outside the city would of course have something to say about the lower ranking but the reality is losing does in fact breed disinterest, especially when the financial market forces fans to cut back on their entertainment spending and whoever said losing is entertaining.

Sadly I couldn’t argue with that. We have some of the least educated non supportive fans in football. Most of our best fans aren’t from Florida.

The Dolphins also have the worst beat writers in all of football. They love to antagonize the fan base to get their clicks.

Agree completely with that. Even when there is something relatively good to talk about they take the bitter direction and sour it.

Very true.. Omar Kelly is one of the biggest Dolphins haters on the S.Fla. media circuit. He’s always got a backhanded remark or a snide comment about the same team that provides him with his livelihood.

Except they are rating the city, not the fan base. Unlike most cities, Miami’s residents aren’t necessarily fans of the home team.

Many of the Miami populace are from up North (snow birds) or they are from the latin communities and prefer soccer. The NFL is huge sport in Miami but it’s more supported when the team is winning.

Yeah brian miller is one of the worst sports writer. Wise he would stop pretending to be a writer and go back to being an emt.

      I agree completely…the dude sucks.

  • Bryan Allen

I hate to say this but I agree.I will always be a fan no matter what.I hate band wagon jumpers.True fans never jump.I just wish they would draft better, cos that’s what kills em every year. They have not had a decent QB since Dan Marino. He was something special.Ryan Tannehill might be there future, though its to soon to tell. But if Miami as a whole is to ever get better, they need to learn how to draft better, cos that’s what kills em every time.

Having rooted for them from afar my entire life, I’ve always been disappointed in the lack of local support they receive. Not sure if it’s because native Floridians at the game and are outnumbered by semi-engaged transplants, but something just isn’t right.

With the weather on your side, that stadium should sell out each and every week. Try attending a few away games in Buffalo, Foxboro and the Meadowlands in the dead of winter and come home with some appreciation for what you’ve got on your doorstep.

It’s a ranking of cities’ support of their teams monetarily through attendance and actually spending money on the team. Some of us don’t have the luxury of even having it be an option. Ive been a diehard Dolphins fan for over 25 years, and have never lived closer than 1000mi away from Miami. Still, I dare anyone to question my loyalty…. Calling me a bad fan to my face would probably be a good way to get knocked out, especially on game day when I’ve had a few drinks and I’m all fired up lol

Keep in mind this ranking has Cleveland ranked low. I dare anyone to show me a city that doesn’t have a Browns Backer group in it. Those fans are rabid!

That Brian Miller guy sucks as a writer.
