While the Miami Dolphins have set their eyes on completing the 2013 preseason with a positive ending, their rookie defensive end Dion Jordan could miss the regular-season opener against the Cleveland Browns.

Jordan, the third selection in the 2013 NFL draft, may not be ready come Sept. 8, according to Chris Perkins of the Sun Sentinel.

“Would I be surprised?” Jordan asked rhetorically. “It’s my body so I know when I’m ready to go or when I’m not ready to go.

The former Oregon Duck was to make immediate impact from the college level to the NFL, but due to the apparent shoulder injury throughout the training camp and preseason, his stance on the defensive end will be put on hold, for now.

As expected, Jordan will sit out of Saturday’s game as the Dolphins take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m.

Its lucky Oliver Vernon has had a good preseason at DE. Hopefully, he can pressure the QB and give Jordan time to heal.

That was me replying below by the way.

I think Olivier Vernon will be the starter and will bring immediate impact. There shouldn’t be any rush for Jordan to jump into the trenches after missing preseason time. He will be good when his number gets called, but for now he should just sit tight.

Jordan might miss 6 games?? Jordan will miss preseason game?? Jordan will miss the season opener?? I guarantee Jordan plays the season opener!!! But, you got to understand, he’s not playing 3 downs anyway.. He will be on the field on “certain pass rushing plays” either way… Bring him along slowly and will not be much of a factor this year… I’m just glad they added that 5th yr option to his contract.. He will come into his own.. Maybe halfway through the season, maybe towards the end of the season, maybe next year… He’s a rookie, no matter how many way you slice it up..
