Who are the Atlanta Falcons?
Head Coach – Mike Smith
GM – Tom Dimitroff
Owner – Rich McKay
Mike Smith entered the NFL as a head coach the same year Miami hired Tony Sparano. Sparano was the 2nd runner up to Coach of the Year losing to Mike Smith. The Atlanta Falcons were close to hiring Bill Parcells to run their operation before then owner Wayne Huizenga swooped in and dropped a ton of guaranteed money on Parcell’s door step. There was a rumor at the time that had Parcells signed with the Falcons, Miami would have hired Dimitroff as the GM. If that had been the case there is a good chance that QB Matt Ryan would have been Miami’s top draft pick over LT Jake Long.
HEAD TO HEAD
The Dolphins lead the all-time series 7-4. This is the 12 meeting between the two teams. The last meeting was in 2009 a loss by the Dolphins.
The Atlanta Falcons advanced to the NFC Championship game for the first time under Smith and Ryan losing to San Francisco. They are expected to advance deep into the playoffs in 2013 but a 1-2 start could stymie those expectations.
The Dolphins will face Matt Ryan and next week Drew Brees followed by Joe Flacco. Last week they faced Andrew Luck. All four QB’s were voted to the Pro-Bowl last season of course Joe Flacco did not play due to the Super Bowl.
