Aaron Hernandez is in jail awaiting his murder trial. He is also waiting for a possible double homicide charge to be added. All this while the federal government investigates weapons chargers and possibly weapons dealing. Now Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey is involved and there may be some trouble ahead for Miami’s leader on the offensive line.
After yesterday’s game in New England law enforcement officials handed Pouncey a subpoena to testify in front of the states Grand Jury. Rumors are swirling now that the state is looking at Pouncey for more than simple testifying. According to Greg Bedard of SI.com, Pouncey will be shocked if he shows up expecting to be quizzed. There is no indication on what Pouncey may face once he stands in front of the courts but it’s looking more like he will need an attorney.
As the rumors go Hernandez is being investigated for a double homicide that occurred a full year before Odin Lloyd was shot and killed presumably by Hernandez. There is a belief that Mike Pouncey was with Hernandez on the night of the that shooting either before or after the incident. While Pouncey will likely be questioned regarding those murders it’s the weapon trafficking that seems to be at the forefront of Pouncey’s subpoena.
According to reports Hernandez is being investigated for interstate weapon trafficking and there seems to be some indication that Mike Pouncey may know of something about it. To what extent is unknown but prosecutors will hope that Pouncey will shed some light and advance their case. Pouncey could opt to take the 5th Amendment but that could open more speculation into his affairs or friendship with Hernandez.
Pouncey was in the news back in July/August when he was spotted at a nightclub with his brother wearing a “Free Hernandez” hat. Maurkice Pouncey issued an apology while the Dolphins stifled any such response from Mike…if there was going to be one at all.
