While short weeks give teams less time to prepare, they also make teams focus more. Miami is currently riding a 4 game losing streak and this short week is a breathe of fresh air for Dolphin fans in that they don’t have as long to stew on last Sunday’s loss to New England. In just a few short days, the Cincinnati Bengals will arrive in Miami for a Thursday Night Football match up that will set the tone for the rest of Miami’s season. The Bengals are currently 6-2 and have wins over New England, Green Bay and Detroit. That being said, they lost to a Cleveland Browns team that Miami beat back in week one. In order for Miami to win at home against an extremely tough Bengals team, they are going to have to stop All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Green.
In my opinon, Green is the best wide receiver in the AFC. He already has 46 grabs for 735 yards and 5 TD’s, and has freakish athletic ability. He is a game changer, an x-factor, and is Andy Dalton’s go-to target.
Look for Miami CB Brent Grimes to match up against Green for the majority of the game. Grimes has done a tremendous job shutting down opposing team’s number one targets this year. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Dion Jordan cover Green some in the red zone, as Jordan may be the only Dolphin defender who can match Green’s strength and athletic ability. Regardless of who has the task of covering Green (it will more than likely be a 2 man job), stopping Green will be essential if the Dolphins want a chance at victory.
The Dolphins must end their losing ways and a win against the AFC North leading Bengals would be huge for this organization. Not only would it instill confidence in an organization desperate for a big win, but it would also give Miami a much needed conference victory come playoff time.
