Despite blowing more than a few close games this season, the Miami Dolphins are still right in the thick of the AFC playoff race, and are one of six teams with a 5-6 record battling for the 6th and final playoff spot. You can see Miami’s current playoff situation here. Even though our Miami Dolphins will not play on Thanksgiving Day, that does not mean that Dolphins fans have the day off from cheering. The Dolphins could greatly benefit from the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving night.
The Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers are two of the six teams that are competing for the final AFC playoff spot, and their final meeting will likely decide which of the two teams still has a shot at the playoffs, as Baltimore still has remaining games against the Patriots and the Bengals. The Steelers still have games against the Bengals and the Dolphins.
So why should Miami Dolphins fans root for the Pittsburgh Steelers?
It is relatively simple. The Baltimore Ravens already have the tiebreaker over the ‘Fins after their 26-23 road victory in Miami earlier in the season. The Dolphins need to finish with a better record than the Ravens, and the Steelers can help the Miami playoff cause by beating the Ravens in Baltimore tonight. Miami still has yet to face Pittsburgh, and can own the tiebreaker with a victory against the Steelers next week.
So, while you are enjoying that piece of pumpkin pie or starting to build that monster of a leftover sandwich, flip on the TV and root for the Pittsburgh Steelers. It may be the last chance you get to root for the Steel Curtain this season, because after this week the Steelers go from necessary allies to treacherous enemies.
Happy Thanksgiving, and keep your FINS UP!
