The 2014 NFL Draft won’t be here for, oh, awhile. In fact the annual April event has been moved back to May. That hasn’t stopped mock draft sites from beginning their annual countdown to the big lottery of grocery shopping.
That is exactly the case over at our network site NFLMocks. While it’s too early for me to start dreaming of draft picks considering we don’t know who will even declare for the draft, it’s still a fun look over. To me I find two things interesting about mocks this early (or late) in the season. One, we get to see what others believe to be the Miami Dolphins biggest need and two, we get to see where they believe the Dolphins are going to finish the season to gain their draft position.
In the case of this years early mock draft, NFLMocks hits the position on the head. They have the Dolphins taking OT Cyrus Kouandjio. Personally, as a writer, I hope the Dolphins skip him. The spelling of his last name is going to kill me. I kid, I’ll call him C-KO. All kidding aside the pick would be a very good selection for the Dolphins as it fills a need of big importance and C-Ko is climbing early rankings. Which may take him out of the range for the Dolphins.
That brings us to number two. The NFLMock guys have the Dolphins selecting 18th which means they believe the Dolphins will have finished in the top six or seven in the AFC. With four weeks left in the season we won’t have to wait long to determine their actual draft spot.
Regardless of whether the mock is far too early or not, one thing is certain. Even outside of Miami, they know our offensive line is priority number one.
