In a somewhat of a surprising move, the Dolphins have placed Dimitri Patterson on injured reserve. Patterson, who was kept in training camp over Richard Marshall, has been battling a groin injury since week one against the Browns. He appeared in only five games this season and saw limited action in each game. Patterson finished the year with 4 interceptions, 1 sack, and 18 tackles.
Last season, Patterson only played in 2 games with the Dolphins. While he is an impact player when on the field, the fact remains that he has struggled to stay healthy the past two seasons. Patterson only has one year left on his deal so it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the offseason.
In other news, the Dolphins also placed CB RJ Stanford on injured reserve after getting hurt in Sunday’s game. In corresponding moves, the Dolphins signed FA CB Justin Rogers along with Michael Thomas, who comes from the 49ers practice squad.
Nolan Carroll will now move into Patterson’s spot full – time but it will be up to one of the rookies – Will Davis and/or Jamar Taylor – to step up and fill the void that is now left open by the injuries.
