The NFL new year doesn’t begin until March but the calendar year ended at 11:59:59 last night.  The Dolphins have had some surprising moments of 2013 to say the least and not all of them made you smile.  With a new year dawning on us today, scroll through the top 10 stories of the Miami Dolphins 2013 season.

Number 10:  The Miami Dolphins make Mike Wallace a rich man.

His name was at the top of all free agent WR’s entering the NFL free agency period.  The Dolphins made him their top priority and rewarded him with the largest contract given out to a WR.  Wallace’s contract, on paper, is for 60 million dollars with almost 45 million guaranteed in the first two years.  Wallace was the speed receiver Miami wanted but he and QB Ryan Tannehill never got on the same page through 16 weeks of regular season and an entire off-season.  The inability to connect between the two likely cost the Dolphins games but did it wedge between them for the future?

This season Mike Wallace seemed to be ready to explode both in production and off the field.  He was not thrilled with his early usage in the game plan but seemed to settle as the season moved into the second month.  Wallace for his part did Tannehill no favors.  A 60 million dollar investment who doesn’t come back for the ball, doesn’t go up for the ball, doesn’t try and catch the ball at it’s highest point, and doesn’t try to fight for a ball with a defender.  But he has speed and Ryan Tannehill couldn’t hit him in stride.  Not one time did the two hook up this season with a perfectly thrown basket catch in stride.
