Dolphins Lose Edwards To Vikings

The Miami Dolphins will be searching for a new LB coach as George Edwards will be moving on to the Minnesota Vikings.   Earlier today it was reported that Edwards had accepted a job with the Vikings.  Miami Dolphins fans will not likely be too upset considering the poor play of LB’s Danelle Ellerbe and Phillip Wheeler.

The job to replace Edwards will fall on DC Kevin Coyle who managed to keep his job despite a huge drop off in defensive performance this year.

The Dolphins are still searching for a GM to replace Jeff Ireland.  Second round interviews are expected to begin soon.

Lost Edwards? ‘Lost’? Are you kidding? I’m a Miami Fan, I can’t believe someone took him to be their DC, our LB’s sucked! Our whole defense went downhill, but esp. the LB’s. I would have paid what little money I left over at the end of the month to have them make a change, and someone ‘stole’ him from us. Fantastic!!!

He must be best buds with Zimmer, who was a DC in Cincy … And will probably being calling the defensive plays anyway…

    • Johnny

Also I don’t think Zimmer will make him DC… LBers coach at best… Good riddings… I think we needed a new LBer coach anyway… Can’t be worse.. Didn’t utilize Ellerbe and Wheeler in blitz packages … and also in general, didn’t utilize their speed… Goodbye..

Bye Edwards, and take Coyle and the Dolphins` offensive “coaching” staff from this past season with you.

Its a win win situation for both. Miami’s linebackers were awful, and that gets back to coaching. Miami gets a chance, hopefully, to sign a better linebackers coach.

  • Don Devine

Meh. He can go on to Minnesota!!! Im hoping we lose a few more of these guys. Like the OL coach, and some of the conditioning coaches.

I’m kind of confused as to all the hate for Kevin Coyle. Miami’s defense finished 8th overall in points allowed. Considering how much the defense was on the field, I think that’s pretty damn good. Yeah, the opponent’s rushing attacks hurt us but I’d say Ellerbe and Wheeler are more to blame for that than anybody. They were constantly out of position, getting eaten up by blockers and missing tackles. Still, when you look at the big picture, the most important job for the defense is to not allow points on the board and only 7 teams were better than our defense in that category.

Vikings took one of the Dolphins most pitiful position coaches, his linebackers were nonexistence. I wonder if the Vikings would be interested in Dolphin line coach Jim Turner? The Dolphins might pay his next yrs salary to get rid of him. Turners OL lead the League 58 sacks allowed.
