It was bad enough when the Miami Dolphins were mocked by the national media for their GM search. It was bad enough watching Jonathan Martin go on national TV to awkwardly build his case against the team…presumably. Now more information has come to light and it’s not painting any rosy pictures for the team. In fact it’s giving the Dolphins something new to digest that could blanket the team in more controversy and could bring down an entirely new NFL investigation.
According to text messages acquired by CBS Miami through Richie Incognito’s attorney Mark Schamel, both Incognito and Martin and possibly Pro-Bowl Center Mike Pouncey were actively using drugs prior and possibly during part of the season. The texts seem to clarify one thing however, Richie and Martin were apparently friends. The texts leave little to the notion that Martin was going along for the ride to try and fit in.
The report from CBS Miami has posted texts referring to “Mary Jane” and “Molly” with Martin declaring during one text that he was going to adhere to “no more drugs this season”. Incognito replied with the same. It’s an absolute must read and you can click on either of the two links above to read the CBS report.
The Miami Dolphins have been mired in controversy since Stephen Ross took over the team and there has been a serious disconnect between coaching and players as the Martin case has elevated far outside the building. Now the new allegations regarding drug use by two and possibly three offensive lineman will surely spark more unwanted attention to a franchise that has lost most of the credibility it had fought to recover after the initial Bill Parcells hire.
It’s nothing short of yet another black mark on a reeling franchise.
