The Miami Dolphins will add another five million dollars to their cap space if a report by Adam Schefter proves true. The team, according to Schefter is ready to release Dimitri Patterson. Patterson will immediately become a free agent. It’s possible the Dolphins could bring him back at a very reduced price if the free agent waters are not good for Patterson.
Patterson was a ball hawking machine for the Dolphins last season making over 4 million dollars on the year. The problem is he only saw action in about six games due to injury issues that ultimately sidelined him for the season. The Dolphins were not going to pay him 5.4 million this season and risk the same. The question now becomes what will Miami do at the position?
In addition to Patterson, Nolan Carroll will hit free agency tomorrow and is rumored to be on the New York Jets radar. The Dolphins still have last years draft picks Jamar Taylor and Will Davis trying to get on the field. Davis played well last season but is not ready for a full time role and Taylor spent much of last season injured.
The team could look t the FA market but they were very interested in the NFL Combine’s CB class.
