Miami Dolphins Ink Delmas

The Miami Dolphins talked about landing big time safety Jarius Byrd in free agency.  Must have been a ploy to get Louis Delmas to sign.  He did.  Today.  The deal is reportedly a one year max deal with a max salary of 3.5 million  according to Pro-Football Talk.com.

Delmas is a good but could be great safety.  The issue is his health.  Delmas played in all 16 games last season but has missed 13 games in the two seasons prior due to knee issues.  Last year he reportedly missed practice time to rest his knees.  Delmas can be a hard hitter from the deep secondary and has solid closing speed.  He had three interceptions and two sacks last season with Detroit.

The move will likely mean the end of Chris Clemons in Miami.  Set to become a free agent tomorrow afternoon, the Dolphins will likely explore more safety options in May’s draft.

I like it! Not as much as I did re-signing Grimes of course or having no choice but to do the obvious and release Patterson, but I like the terms of the contract and the fact he is a hometown product adds to that… the hometown air, cooking, and playing in front of his friends may do him well… I’m liking Hickey.

Delmas’s knee condition is most likely never going to improve, and may get worse, as it is a degenerative condition. He’ll probably be limited in his practice time. There better be good communication in the secondary.

Well… Clemons might not be as much of a game-changer… But… He doesn’t make too many mistakes and doesn’t let much get by him … Delmas takes more chances , but also gives up a lot.. I don’t know.. I guess this team needs to take a few more chances…

Great signing. If the Dolphins coaching staff can get Delmas to stop running through brick walls, he might make a season. Delmas plays the game the way it should be played.
