This is our annual live update post.  To find out the latest news, simply come back to PhinPhanatic.com and look at the title update to see if there is a new one.  Our first breaking news is the signing of Branden Albert who is now on his way to the facility for a physical and to sign the papers.  Reportedly worth North of 9 million per year, Alberts will sign a five year deal.

Knowing the Dawn Aponte approach, the Dolphins should have an out in two to three seasons.  Expect the guaranteed portion to be around 28 million with lower base salaries that will average together to form a 9 million yearly average.

Update 20:  The Dolphins offered a contract to former Broncos guard Zane Beadles but Jacksonville offered more and Miami lost out.  The Dolphins are still looking at guards as well as defensive tackles.

Update 19:  Jets guard Austin Howard will not be making an early FA visit to Miami.  He is headed to Oakland.  There were early rumors that the Dolphins would take a long hard look at Howard.  They still may call but his first visit won’t be with Miami.  Way too early to get concerned but Miami still has gaping holes at LG where Sam Brenner spent time last year as the starter, RG where John Jerry is out of a job, and RT where Jonathan Martin is still “technically” on the roster.  Tyson Clabo last years starter is now a free agent.

Update 18:  Safety Jarius Byrd is heading to New Orleans for a visit.  Miami had lukewarm interest.  He will likely command 10+ million yearly.

Update 17:  Free agency is not even two hours old and it’s been more frantic than any year I can remember.  The Dolphins so far have signed Branden Albert and Earl Mitchell while also adding Louis Delmas yesterday and Brent Grimes on a re-sign a week ago.  They still have needs at DT, CB, both guard positions, RB, TE, and RT.  Doubt they do much more today but we will see.

Update 16:  The Vikings have signed DT Linval Joseph for a reported 6 + million per season deal.  The Dolphins had some interest but opted for the far more inexpensive Earl Mitchell

Update 15:  The K.C. Chiefs have lost three offensive lineman in an hour and a half.

Update 14:  Cleveland Safety T.J. Ward has signed with the Denver Broncos.

Update 13:  The Colts have re-signed CB Vontae Davis to a 4 year 39 million dollar deal that includes 20 million guaranteed.  His grandmother has to be thrilled.  The Colts will regret this in another year.  With reports that Darrelle Revis will be cut if not traded, it’s hard to imagine what his yearly price tag will be.

Update 12:  The offensive lineman in free agency are getting eaten up thus far.  All true LT’s are off the market including of course Branden Albert and the RT’s and Guards are now coming off quickly.  There has been no rumors as of yet to Miami’s interest in any more specific lineman thus far today.

Update 11:  The Jaguars have traded Blaine Gabbert to the SF 49’ers.  Chad Henne will now enter the 2014 season as the incumbent starter.  The Jags will look to the draft for their franchise QB.

Update 10:  KC DE Tyson Jackson, a rumored target of Miami has signed with the Falcons.  The Falcons have been very active in today’s market opening.

Update 9:  Albert may have cost Miami a big contract, but all three top LT’s are all signed only an hour into free agency.  Eugene Monroe will remain  with the Ravens.

Update 8:  Paul Soliai signs with Atlanta 5 years 33 million.  Hardly a back breaking contract.  14 million is guaranteed.  Soliai is over 30  years of age.

Update 7:  Dolphins sign Earl Mitchell.  4 years 16 million.  More on all the Dolphins signing later tonight or tomorrow.

Update 6:  Branden Albert’s contract is five years 46 million with 25 million guaranteed.  That’s a lot of money but consider Valdheer received 21 from Arizona.  LT is at a premium early.

Update 5:  Per Rotoworld, the Dolphins are looking at DE Tyson Jackson.  Jackson played last season for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Update 4:  The Miami Dolphins are rumored to have interest in Green Bay FA WR James Jones.

Update 3:  The Dolphins are flying in DT Earl Mitchell and are expected to sign him tonight.  It’s rumored that the team will pay roughly 4 million per season on a 4 year deal.  Mitchell  played for the Texans.

Update 2:  The Cardinals have signed Oakland LT Jared Veldheer.  21 million is guaranteed.  The Raiders have signed free agent lineman Rodger Saffold formerly of the Rams.  Saffold was thought to be a target of the Dolphins.
