The Miami Dolphins spent a high second rounder on tackle Jonathan Martin. At the time it was said to be a steal by many in the media. National media at that. Coming into the draft Martin was described as a future leader on and off the field with high mental marks conducted by an independent company who supplies screening for most NFL teams. Martin duped them. He duped Miami. The fallout from his “meltdown” cost people their jobs.
Late last night new GM Dennis Hickey with the support of both his HC and owner traded the troubled tackle to the San Francisco 49’ers. I mentioned on Twitter last night that it was for a bag of frozen peas. It wasn’t that far off. The Dolphins will receive a 2015 7th round pick for Martin. Yes, I said 2015. The only caveat is that he makes the 49’ers roster. In other words if he can’t get his act together on the field and in the locker room, the Dolphins will get nothing.
Well, that’s not entirely true. The Dolphins will get the peace of mind that they no longer have him on their team. Interestingly enough, the Dolphins received interest from both the Colts and Vikings earlier in the day but it is not known what they were offering but apparently given the deal Miami made with San Fran, it must have been the aforementioned frozen bag of peas.
