The Miami Dolphins quiet few days is about to get a little louder.  According to Albert Breer, the Dolphins are close to finalizing a deal for CB Cortland Finnegan.  Finnegan left Tennessee to join his former coach Jeff Fisher in St. Louis.  He received a nice fat contract and then his skills died off.  The Rams didn’t feel he worth the price tag anymore and released him a few days ago.  The deal as reported will be for two years.

Finnegan was a playmaker a short two years ago.  If he is capable of returning to that form the Dolphins will have a potent combination at their corner positions.  If he doesn’t return then Will Davis and Jamal Taylor will have another veteran to learn from.

In addition to the negotiations going on now with Finnegan, the Dolphins have placed an offer on the table for OG Shelly Smith.  Smith visited New England but left without a contract offer.  It’s believed that he is pondering the offer as well as weighing interest from other teams.  Earlier today the Dolphins were declined a visit by Zach Strief for reasons unknown.  It is known that Strief wants to remain in New Orleans despite the teams financial mess.

Shelley Smith can be an asset in boosting the running game, but he ranked pretty low in pass protection. It is my opinion (as I rarely offer 1), that the running game doesn’t need a lot of help and that as long as the OL can at least hold their blocks, they should do much better than this past year, however, pass protection in my not so humble opinion, is what the Dolphins need the most of.

“Pass protection? What’s that?” – Ryan Tannehill.

LOL… Ryan, Ryan… “Dear Ryan: Pass protection is what will keep you form forgetting Lauren’s name, the city you live in and the name of the team you play for…” Contact your local GM or coach and request some pass protection today”

Hard to say Finnegan’s “skills died off,” as he was injured last year and played in only 7 games. Looks like we’ll have the smurfs as our starting CB’s.
I do look forward to Finnegan picking off Gee-No and leaving the Jets in his wake as he scores a TD.

Glad to see miami has signed Finnegan, and made an offer to Smith. The best lineman will start maybe that’s Smith, maybe not.
