Bryant McKinnie Willing To Play Right Tackle

This I know is a fact.  If you have been following the Twitter universe you will know what I am talking about.  According to Bryant McKinnie himself on WQAM sports radio, he is willing to play the right tackle position.

This should be the flag that Dennis Hickey needs to see.  Re-signing McKinnie makes a ton of sense.  First he will be cheaper than what the Dolphins would have paid at the outset of free agency.  Secondly, he showed last year that he could still play the game and finally, the Dolphins really need a right tackle.  The fact that McKinnie was a solid locker room player should be considered a bonus.

Signing McKinnie would give the Dolphins flexibility.  They could draft a RT in May and allow that player to compete for the starting job.  It would be a legit competition and should bring out the best in McKinnie.  The fact that Miami could have a veteran who already knows the schemes and philosophies on offense doesn’t hurt either.  The RT position is vacant right now and the Dolphins should not be banking on the draft to solve that situation entirely.  There are other veterans available but McKinnie might be a good choice to fill that void as a stopgap veteran.

I’m glad you feel that way too (not that we have the power to change anything but it’s comforting to know I’m not alone). McKinnie, being that he is willing and provided he’s able to switch productively, as I expressed on your article from earlier today, “The Dolphins Still Have Line Issues”, would at least buy the Phins some time to defer further OL help to the draft, and a year to develop such rookies. There’s always the possibility that one of these drafted prospects could turn some heads around in training camp and actually start. I am ready to move on to the draft. I also believe, borrowing the slogan from a pizza place… “better line, better running… papa pizza” or words to that effect, our “need” for a power complementing RB should wait until after we’ve taken care of the O/L and secondary needs… perhaps there’s an RB gem from UFAs.

      And a Big Target TE…

      • Miami Jules (Julian)

I recently wrote projected UFAs on the site I write for, and among them, there’s one tall WR who had caught my eye… his name is Marcus Lucas from Missou. Lucas isn’t as tall as my pick for the Phins in the 5th round, Brandon Coleman, whom I’ve been raving about since January, but can’t lose anything by kicking the tires.

Better go after Winston or Clabo FOR CHEAP!!! And still draft a Tackle in the 1st round…

    • Johnny

Maybe work out this Charles Brown guy from NO… He’s only 26, but had a bad year and replaced at LT… Try him at RT or atleast as depth… If cheap enough..

      • Johnny

Or maybe Penn… Eitherway we must draft a RT to compete to start.. And a fall back plan with depth..

    • Miami Jules (Julian)

I agree with “And still draft a tackle in the 1st round…” Johnny. I do favor resigning McKInnie, and since we plan to draft and develop an RT, we can always cut him next year.

I’d rather not see Clabo come back to Miami. He played attrociously last year.

Miami should certainly consider signing McKinney.

  • Johnny

I’d make a call to RT Eric Winston…
For depth and compete with draft pick Zach Martin..

In which we should have done last year.. Winston OVER Clabo and McKinnie..
