Dimitri Patterson, who played corner back for the Miami Dolphins last season, is set to visit the New York Jets today, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Patterson was released by the Dolphins the day before Free Agency began, undoubtedly due to his inability to remain healthy while a part of the team.
In the 6 games Patterson played in last season, he was highly productive, reeling in 4 interceptions and a sack. He started opposite of CB Brent Grimes, but suffered groin injury that kept him out of play for the majority of the season.
I am not surprised to see New York’s interest in Patterson. After choosing to part ways with CB Antonio Cromartie and passing on a second Darrelle Revis era, the Jets are in need at the CB position. If Patterson can stay healthy, he would be a great fit at the position and fill that need. That is a big “IF” though.
Patterson would join a list of players who made the switch from the Dolphins to the Jets, or vice versa. This list includes WR Clyde Gates, S Yeremiah Bell, DE Jason Taylor, and more recently TE Dustin Keller.
