Last years attempt to get the Miami Dolphins linebacking corp better, failed. Miserably. The Dolphins spent a ton of money on then free agents Dannelle Ellerbe and Phillip Wheeler and neither player came close to the expectations given their contracts. A year later and many have speculated that Wheeler could be looking for work after June 1st when cuts can be spread out of over the life of the contract instead of taking the cap hit immediately.
On a roll today, Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post is saying that the Dolphins will skip a potential first round draft selection of C. J. Mosely of Alabama to take a lineman and then shake up their LB’s by moving bodies around.
Abramson believes, according to his source that the Dolphins will move Koa Misi from the outside strong in and move Wheeler to the outside strong and Ellerbe to the weak side. Wheeler was touted as being a good cover LB, something we didn’t see much of last season. What did see was the continued failure game after game of the duo getting pressure on the QB. Maybe a shake-up is needed.
Moving bodies around might solve a few issues but it won’t solve all of them. In my opinion which amounts to about as much as the stain on a coffee cup, Miami should target Mosely in the draft, then shake up the LB’s and draft a RT in round two. Mosely in my opinion is one of the better LB’s in this draft and frankly we see that buying one in free agency doesn’t always work. In addition, Mosely should be able to step in day one and play.
The Dolphins have a far greater need along the right side of the line but LB should still be a priority and shifting players around and out of position is nothing more than a bandaid fix to a larger cut.
