For now, Jeff Ireland is employed. The Seattle Seahawks announced today that former Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland has been hired as a draft consultant. Ireland made his way up the rank and file in Dallas as a personnel man and was brought to Miami with Bill Parcells and given his first GM position. Miami fans rallied to beg Stephen Ross to fire him. Apparently not everyone sees him the way the fans did or do.
The job in Seattle for now is temporary but Seahawk GM John Schneider has said that the two sides will talk after the draft about a full time position with the team.
Ireland’s tenure in Miami was highlighted by a departing Bill Parcells two weeks before training camp opened, a question about WR Dez Bryant’s mom, calling a fan an asshole after he was berated by the fan at a stadium concourse, had a “Fire Ireland” banner flown over the stadium, and finally internal issues with a coach he didn’t want and a cap-ologist with whom a power struggle ensued.
Ireland had his contract “mutually” terminated by owner Stephen Ross shortly after the seasons end. Still, not a bad move for a guy fired from the Dolphins to the Super Bowl Champions…albeit the pay is way less.
