The May 3rd deadline to extend Mike Pouncey’s has been approaching quickly for the Dolphins, and there has been plenty of discussion on when the Dolphins would exercise their 5th year option on Pouncey. That day was today. According to sources, Mike Pouncey is now under contract for the 2015 season.
According to league sources, the 5th year option on Pouncey will commit just over $7.4 million to the 2014 Pro-Bowl center. The CBA stipulates the fifth year options pay the top 10 picks, the NFL average for the 10 players in their respected position. Since Pouncey was drafted at the 15 slot in 2011 draft, he will be subject to the average salary of NFL players three to twenty-six at the center position.
Pouncey has started all 46 games in his career, and was selected to his first Pro-Bowl last season. In the wake of the Dolphin’s bullying scandal last season, Pouncey was named in the Ted Well’s report as a harasser of Jonathon Martin. Consequently, the Dolphin’s are undergoing a transition in the offensive line, and have locked up center Mike Pouncey for the 2015 season, giving the Dolphins another year to talk about an extension with Pouncey if necessary.
It should also be noted Roger Goodell implemented a psychological test for Mike Pouncey before he can resume his career this season.
