If last years Jonathan Martin/Richie Incognito fiasco taught us anything, pro-athletes shouldn’t “tweet”. It could be argued that a lot of people shouldn’t tweet. In this modern age of instant gratification and instant reaction, “Twitter” has become the social giant for adults over Facebook. Yet still, we find that some don’t know when to simply not push send.
Thursday night, shortly after the Miami Dolphins drafted Ja’Wuan James, Mike Pouncey tweeted something to the affect of “Can’t wait to see he what he is going to buy us”. If any other NFL player tweeted that it would have gone unnoticed but the Dolphins were embroiled in a huge controversy and Pouncey was at the center of it. There was nothing harmless in the tweet and there was no illicit behavior that one might construe as bullying but it did show that in the NFL rookies are treated differently and they have to pay for stuff….yawn.
Mike Pouncey shut his “Twitter” account down shortly thereafter.
Last night it was Don Jones’ turn. Following the selection of Michael Sam, and the video of his kiss with his boyfriend, Jones “tweeted” OMG and followed up a response from someone else with “horrible” in relation to the male to male smooch. The tweets were quickly taken down and the Dolphins have said they will talk to Jones about it. The fact that Dennis Hickey had to address the situation at his post-draft press conference shows that the Martin/Incognito case is far from forgotten.
