Dolphins Need To Quit Twitter

If last years Jonathan Martin/Richie Incognito fiasco taught us anything, pro-athletes shouldn’t “tweet”.  It could be argued that a lot of people shouldn’t tweet.  In this modern age of instant gratification and instant reaction, “Twitter” has become the social giant for adults over Facebook.  Yet still, we find that some don’t know when to simply not push send.

Thursday night, shortly after the Miami Dolphins drafted Ja’Wuan James, Mike Pouncey tweeted something to the affect of “Can’t wait to see he what he is going to buy us”.  If any other NFL player tweeted that it would have gone unnoticed but the Dolphins were embroiled in a huge controversy and Pouncey was at the center of it.  There was nothing harmless in the tweet and there was no illicit behavior that one might construe as bullying but it did show that in the NFL rookies are treated differently and they have to pay for stuff….yawn.

Mike Pouncey shut his “Twitter” account down shortly thereafter.

Last night it was Don Jones’ turn.  Following the selection of Michael Sam, and the video of his kiss with his boyfriend, Jones “tweeted” OMG and followed up a response from someone else with “horrible” in relation to the male to male smooch.  The tweets were quickly taken down and the Dolphins have said they will talk to Jones about it.  The fact that Dennis Hickey had to address the situation at his post-draft press conference shows that the Martin/Incognito case is far from forgotten.

Tweeting is dumb anyway. However, guys has the right to feel how he wants. The nfl is sick with the PC crap. League is a joke now already cancelled Sunday ticket.

    • txmedic5

you quit NFL Sunday ticket because the NFL is PC?

      • Shaggy

That, and the fake bullying scandal, corrupt officials, ridiculous rule changes….keep buying…it’s going to get expensive.

    • Yun

Barricade yourself in your home Shaggy…..it’s EVERYWHERE!

  • Yun

Jesus. …go back to school and learn how to punctuate and construct a sentence.

    • Bob Grush

this is blogging, no grammar police needed

      • Yun

Don’t care what it is. ..if you’re gonna blog or write or tap dance….don’t make yourself look like an idiot

        • Bob Grush

then you should not blog, most people here are just having fun on the weekend. It is more important to be part of blog and share thoughts, then it is to attack a poster because you do not like where he put a coma. Normally when a poster dives off into correcting everybody, they lose the whole point of the blog and that defines what an idiot is in the internet world…just say-in.

          • Yun

It’s a COMMA Bob….not a coma which your post actually put me in. I’m just trying to deflect from the reality that Pouncey and Jones are perhaps the dumbest players in the history of football. I would be willing to bet that the tweet Pouncey posted costs him his job.

          • Bob Grush

LOL, maybe you should just stick to attacking people and stay away from football…

          • Yun

My apologies Bob….think I’ll do the opposite

          • DragonFly34

Wo gremmer police in Fansided,,,what about senszership, do we kapitalize that just let it ride, morun.,,,,,,,,,,,,,./………………..?????????????

  • Steven

You tolerate the person, you don’t have to tolerate their ideas/behavior

  • trinity

Could pouncey be any more stupid if he tried?

  • Buckeye Finfan

Tolerance is a 2 way street. You want me to tolerate your life style choice which I gladly do but you don’t want to tolerate people who have different values than you. I can accept you and associate with you because you have a right to have different beliefs but you won’t accept me unless I agree with you. So you are intolerant of me for having different beliefs than you. Also, I don’t care if you want to be gay but rubbing my face in it with public displays of affection is not acceptable or respectful of others. I would say the same thing to a hetero couple. Get a room!

    • txmedic5

If it’s a two way street then you shouldn’t have public displays of attention with your wife or girlfriend either.

      • Buckeye Finfan

That’s exactly what I said. Read the second last sentence. There is a line of what is appropriate for programming that is supposed to be family friendly or for all audiences and that line should not be crossed by straight or gay couples. That line changes for night time and more mature audiences.

  • Buckeye Finfan

I understand an employer doesn’t want a player to say anything that isn’t PC. I would agree with that when he is at work or if he were doing something illegal. But to me it crosses a lined when a person is not free to express their views when they are not at work. The company does not own the person’s entire life. They would not have had a problem if he spoke out in support of the gay lifestyle but they have a problem because he spoke out against it. So they are taking sides in a political statement and forcing him to give up his freedom of speech when he is on his own time.

As a business owner, I have had employees with different view points than mine and usually different than my clients. I didn’t care what they said and did when they were away from work but when they were on the job they knew it was not acceptable to talk about those things with clients because at that point they represented my business. Unfortunately, in football a player is always seen as representing his team even when he is off the clock. However, that does not give the team the right to take away a person’s freedom of speech. And expressing one’s values is not hate speech. Name calling from either side is what I would consider hate speech.

    • txmedic5

I do agree with you here. Ignorance and tolerance are not the same thing but freedom of speech is everyones’ right regardless of how it may make them look.

      • Buckeye Finfan

I’m not sure what you are trying to say but to call someone ignorant because you disagree would qualify as hate speech to me. If you think someone is ignorant that is just your opinion. Someone could think you are just as ignorant for your opposing opinion. Tolerance does not mean agreeing with someone.

    • Yun

So you consider what he said hate speech but defend his right to say it? Sorry but that no longer flies…

      • Buckeye Finfan

I don’t consider what he said to be hate speech. He didn’t call names or threaten anyone. He said, “OMG Horrible”. He was expressing an opinion which is what the 1st amendment is all about. It’s funny how you think it’s okay for someone to express a view you agree with but it’s not okay for them to express something with which you don’t agree. It’s okay for you to call someone ignorant if they have different values than you and for some reason that isn’t hate speech. Your thinking doesn’t make sense and is totally hypocritical.

        • Yun

Oh God…your confusion is confusing me. Nowhere did I call you ignorant. .but it’s okay to call me that? You are typical of every backward thinking person in this country

  • DragonFly34

I don’t believe Hickey is attempting to censor Jones for the “twitter” thing. And I thought Pounceys “twitter” thing was awful funny. Pouncey only pointed out the 500lb gorilla in the room so come on people lighten up.
According to Brian Miller, the Dolphins are embroiled in a hugh controversy, what controversy? Don’t look now folks but Well’s report is gathering dust in the NFL attic. Its been months and the appointed King of the NFL, Rodger Goodell, isn’t saying a work about that report or any controversy. The only controversy is being pushed by the sports media. The sports media is just like the news media in that they need to champion a cause and that cause is a homosexual football player who was drafted in the 7th rd., and not the first amendment to the constitution. I do believe the media is traveling on a very slippery slop, if they support Jones being censored then how long before the media is being censored. We can censor the sports media ourselves by not reading these unqualified ramblings.

    • Yun

Yes…the 1st Amendment is the right to free speech. There are also consequences that come with exercising the 1st Amendment. Like the loss of wages or job

    • txmedic5

Yes you are correct about the media forcing this but Jones’ suspension and fine are news and that’s why it’s here. I think it’s completely stupid but then again, I thought Martin’s claim last year was as well. Oh BTW…you misspelled Huge as HUGH the guy above you might call you on it.

  • http://www.premiermcs.com Jcartwright67

This is just a big misunderstanding. Jones was referring to Hickey’s draft with OMG and horrible.

    • txmedic5

Best comment I have read in a long time!

  • John

Looks like you need an editor. It’s like a high school kid wrote this. You have a mistake in the very first sentence. Come on man! Too many errors to list here. Yeah, it’s a blog, but it completely discredits what you are saying. Take a minute to reread what you write.

    • txmedic5

enlighten me oh college professor. Then take a moment to try and write an article to get out asap on your phone. Sorry.

  • Buckeye Finfan

I saw this post elsewhere and really like what he says:

Not everyone should be forced to enjoy abnormal human sexual relations of man on man french kissing and licking each other
Some folks find it puke inducing and should be entitled to their opinion
While others find it soooo cute and hope their sons grow up abnormal to the human race

Why can’t heteros be entitled to their own honest opinion too?

Everyone is scared of being berated, scorned and even fired for not condoning the ab-normalcy of two men groping and fornicating each other, esp in public.

Why do we all have to live the lie ?

Most heteros find it repulsive and actually become physically ill watching this grotesque conduct

When did straight people lose all their rights to advocate strictly normal hetero human relationships?

So heteros have to lie about their moral sexual opinions to appease (queer) strange male behavior?

We are entitled to our opinions and don’t need the gay community forcing us to accept ab-normalcy or be shunned by folks only interested in their public image when in fact most have the exact opposite view in private

    Be Truthful Folks
U do not have to praise and accept this behavior if u choose not

Many gays refer to heteros in a negative connotation as, Breeders” and women as “smelly fish”
    So that is their opinion

Why do heteros have to play the, this is adorable and so wonderful” act?
