Finally a little debate. Not much as I have a feeling who is going to knock this out of the park. Still, there are some very good historical names on this list of players wearing jersey number ten. To me, personally, I have always liked that number and in fact at one point couldn’t decide who’s name I wanted to put on the back of my own authentic number ten jersey. So I copped out and put my own. Hey, I was young what can I say.
The real members of the Miami Dolphins who wore the jersey did so with a lot of talent, pride, and most of them wore it well.
George Wilson, Jr. was the first QB the Dolphins had and was the son of their first head coach as well, George Wilson, Sr. He wore the jersey one season in 1966. In 1971 George Mira wore the jersey number followed by Don Strock who wore the jersey from 1974 – 1987. The number passed to Pete Stoyonovich from 1989 – 1995 and then to Olindo Mare from 1997 – 2006. Trent Green wore the number for one season in 2007 and Chad Pennington wore it from 2008 – 2010. The number went to WR’s after that with Clyde Gates in 2011 and Jabar Gaffney in 2012. Brandon Gibson wears the jersey now.
So who wore it best?
The first name that pops up is Don Strock. The longtime Dolphins back-up QB took over for Earl Morrall when he retired. He backed up Hall of Famer’s Bob Griese and Dan Marino. He served as the QB behind David Woodley and was more than capable of coming off the bench to lead game winning drives and changing the momentum. But Strock wasn’t the only one to wear the jersey. Both Pete Stoyanovich and Olindo Mare served the Dolphins well. Stoyo played six seasons with the Dolphins and Mare played nine seasons with Miami. An argument might also be made for Chad Pennington who was the last QB to lead the Dolphins to the playoffs.
So you decide. Who wore number 10 the best?
