Today you get two polls in one shot as we pose 18 and 19 for your consideration.
The number 18 is a weak number for the Dolphins. Choosing who wore it best will be a task for sure as no one truly stands out. Dick Wood wore the jersey first in 1966. From ’66 to 1989 no one wore the uniform number until Cliff Stoudt in ’89. From 2002-2005 Sage Rosenfels wore the uniform doing an admirable job as a back-up QB and spot starter. In 2008 Ernest Wilford wore the number and lastly Roberto Wallace wore it from 2010 to 2011. Today WR Rishard Mathews wears it.
Normally first and 2nd year players have not been included in our “Best of” list but this list is a little thin so we will add Mathews to the poll considering he saw quite a bit of playing time last season. I’m not sure if he “wore it best” but I’ll let you decide that fate here.
Moving to number 19 we find a few more talented players who have donned jerseys for the Dolphins. It wasn’t until 1986 when Reyna Thompson wore the uniform that Miami dressed a player in number 19. Scott Mitchell who played very well for the Dolphins, but not so much for the Detroit Lions wore the uniform from 1990 -1993. Then University of Miami Alumn Bernie Kosar donned the number after a short stint in Dallas following Cleveland from 1994 – 1995. I remember that signing as I was on my honeymoon on a cruise and someone announced it over a “sports update” on the liner. Nate Jacquet would wear 19 in 1998 and then Ted Ginn, Jr. from 2007 – 2009. Brandon Marshall staked his claim for the number from 2010 to 2011 and he was followed by Legedu Naanee in 2012 and Armon Binns who has worn the uniform number since 2012 as well.
So who wore this best?
