The Miami Dolphins drafted their right tackle of the future and today they signed their right tackle of the future. Agreeing to terms with first round pick Ja’Wuan James leaves the Dolphins with only Billy Turner left unsigned.
The Dolphins are hoping that James can be the answer to their line issues on the right side earlier rather than later. Considered by some to be a slight reach at number 19, James isn’t guaranteed to be the starting tackle opening day. Although it’s very likely that the spot will James to lose in training camp.
With head coach Joe Philbin sitting on a seat that could grow warmer as the season progresses, having his and Dennis Hickey’s draft class have success will be an important step to finding success. The Dolphins will sport four new offensive lineman this year.
The only guaranteed returning starter on the line is center Mike Pouncey. The Dolphins signed free agent Brandon Albert to play the left side and a couple of journeymen lineman to compete at right and left guard. The Dolphins did not address the right tackle position in free agency and thus are relying heavily on their first round pick.
