RB Damien Williams Climbing Dolphins’ Depth Chart

facebooktwitterreddit

There are currently two D Williams participating in training camp for the Miami Dolphins.  Damian Williams, the former Tennessee Titans WR, has had success early in camp.  The other Damien Williams (note the spelling change), is also enjoying his own quick start, and has an outstanding opportunity in front of him.  Because of Miami’s current uncertainty at the RB position, Oklahoma Sooner Damien Williams is my #4 player to watch in training camp this off season.

The Dolphins brought in veteran running back Knowshon Moreno to compete with last year’s starter Lamar Miller.  Due to injuries, fans have yet to see Moreno do much of anything, and his role in the upcoming season is very much up in the air.  As for Miller, it looks like he will win the starting job again.  That being said, it is the recently signed Williams who is making a splash in camp.  Dolphins reporter Omar Kelly tweeted today that the  “Top performers of a D dominated day: 1. Dion Jordan (2 sacks); 2. Damian Williams (flashed all day);3. Damien Williams (moving up depth cht).”

This is nothing but good news for a currently weak group of Dolphin running backs.  Williams went un-drafted out of college, undoubtedly due to his trouble off the field, and his expulsion from the Sooner team in November.  The 5 foot 11, 222 pound back totaled 1,499 rushing yards on 290 attempts and 18 TD’s, and 43 receptions for 410 yards and 1 TD in just two brief seasons with the Sooners.  He ran a 4.45 forty yard dash and benched 16 reps at the combine.

Williams is a project, but proved that he can produce at the college level.  With the current state of uncertainty (other than Lamar Miller) at RB for the Dolphins, it would do new OC Bill Lazor some good to consider everyone as a possibility at the position.  With a lot of help, Williams could one day prove to be a non-drafted steal for the Miami Dolphins.  His success thus far in camp puts him #4 on my list of Dolphins to watch during training camp.

Previous (#5 CB Cortland Finnegan).
