This weekend’s matchup with the Dallas Cowboys brings with it plenty of history and connections. From Super Bowls won lost against and common coaches shared with this NFC East foe, the history between them is long.
Even though it’s a preseason game, it’s fitting they meet in the dress rehearsal game, such similar franchises that have been average for a while, they both look at their Quarterbacks with reasons for hope.
The connections in tonight’s game start with Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett, who had a brief stint as a Miami Dolphins Quarterback at the end of his playing career in 2004.
A few years later, then Head Coach Nick Saban hired Garrett to serve as his Quarterback Coach ironically one if these year’s coming under then Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan who now serves as Garrett’s Passing Game Coordinator.
Current Miami Dolphins Tight Ends Coach Dan Campbell played for the Cowboys for a few years during his playing career and current Offensive Guard David Arkin is a former Dallas Cowboys Fourth Round pick, who will be matching up against his former teammates tonight.
Miami Dolphins Defensive Line Coach Kacy Rodgers served in the same capacity with the Cowboys for years as well.
Dallas Cowboys Assistant Head Coach Monte Kiffin and Defensive Coordinator Rod Marinelli both spent time with current Miami Dolphins General Manager Dennis Hickey.
Obviously the Dolphins have had 3 former Cowboys Coaches that became Dolphins Head Coaches in Jimmy Johnson, Dave Wannstedt, and Tony Sparano.
Tonight should be a good game and will provide plenty of evidence as to what kind of team, fans can suspect to have come the regular season. FINS UP!
