Miami Dolphins’ Biggest Challenges

During the last two seasons, the Miami Dolphins were in position to not only finish with a winning record, but also make their way into the playoffs. However, the Dolphins stumbled down the stretch both years and finished at 8-8. The last two years were both exciting and agonizing for Dolphins fans everywhere. The Dolphins would make waves by being competitive or outright winning games people thought they would lose and then they would end up losing games that they should have won. On paper, this season’s schedule offers the Dolphins a good chance to make the playoffs after a good offseason. Fans have heard that numerous times before so right now I’m going to list and talk about this season’s make or break games for the Dolphins.

Week 1: Washington Redskins

Most people have already counted this game as a Dolphins’ victory, but they shouldn’t be too sure of that. The Redskins have had their share of problems the last two seasons, but they are still a threatening team for the Dolphins. Regardless of what people are predicting, I think this is a great season opening game for the Dolphins. This game is going to tell us a lot about this reloaded Dolphins team. Robert Griffin III may be struggling as a quarterback, but that’s not the biggest threat the defense needs to worry about. This Redskins offense still has a potent running back with Alfred Morris and running backs have been known to give the Dolphins fits. If the defense struggles against the run in this game, then we may be looking at a long year

  • Another reason this game is intriguing is because the Redskins have started to revamp their defense as well. The Redskins added multiple defensive linemen during free agency including Terrance “Pot Roast” Knighton and Stephen Paea. The Dolphins’ offensive line has been pretty bad overall ever since Ryan Tannehill got under center. Last season the line looked much better until an injury took out Branden Albert. After that all heck broke loose and Ryan Tannehill was on his own again. This won’t be the best defensive line the Dolphins will face but it will be a good measuring stick to see just how good our offensive line is.

If the Dolphins can start off the season with a convincing win over the Redskins, then things will be looking pretty bright in South Florida.
