Miami Dolphins last meeting with the Jets was ugly

The Miami Dolphins will host the New York Jets on Sunday and could serve as a turning point for the Dolphins. Winners of two in a row, beating the Jets could swing the team around.

While Miami is focusing on the game at hand, the rest of us can look back at the dismal performances by the Dolphins last year. In their first meeting, a week four game in London, England, the Dolphins were not only embarrassed but a day later fired Joe Philbin.

In that game Miami lost 27-14 but the game was nowhere close to that point differential as the Dolphins simply failed to do anything positive most of the game. Despite the fact the game led to firing of Philbin, it was later in the season that the Dolphins really tanked.

The last meeting between the two teams was an ugly loss for the Dolphins. Facing the Jets in New York the first quarter opened with a Ryan Fitzpatrick to Brandon Marshall touchdown pass to end the first quarter.

The Dolphins couldn’t mount an offensive threat in the first half and by the time the 3rd quarter began to wind down, Miami was in a 21-0 hole. With 2:30 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, Miami finally got on the board with a Ryan Tannehill to Jarvis Landry touchdown pass.

Unfortunately the Jets would answer with another two touchdowns before Miami would put their final 13 points on the board late in the 4th quarter. Including a touchdown to DeVante Parker with .05 seconds left in the game.

The Dolphins haven’t beaten the Jets since their December 1st game in 2014 when Miami won by three points in New York. This season the Dolphins opened their season with hard-fought games against the Seahawks and Patriots but barely beat a winless Browns team.

Miami would finally get back on track against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a shocking win then beat a  Bills team that had won four games in a row. This weeks game is important because it will either show that Miami is making a turn or that they have learned nothing from the past two weeks.

The Dolphins also are coming off their bye week and have had more time to prepare for this game. The Jets are coming off a win over the Browns who like the Dolphins needed a second half surge to beat them.

With Ryan Fitzpatrick back at quarterback, the Dolphins must take advantage of the up and down season he is having that got him benched only a short few weeks ago. What the Dolphins can’t afford is another game like the last three they have played.
