Jason Taylor Foundation spearheads Louder Than A Bomb Florida

When the name Jason Taylor is spoken in Miami Dolphins fan circles, images of the former edge rusher sacking opposing quarterbacks come to mind. When the Jason Taylor Foundation is mentioned, images of hope for children comes to mind.

It’s not often that a former football standout would take as much pride in poetry as he did sacks, interceptions, and fumble recoveries but for Taylor and his foundation, finding a way for South Florida youth to express themselves has become a priority.

The Jason Taylor Foundation and the Omari Hardwick bluapple Poetry Network have worked diligently to bring a Chicago born poetry contest to South Florida. The spoken word poetry festival known as “Louder Than A Bomb” has become a district to district wide event where schools and different grade levels compete in an organized event not too different from debate contests.

Not every student can be an athlete but anyone can stand up and be heard through poetry. The opportunity for students to express themselves in a public forum should have long time benefits for the students who have taken to the challenge. Through building confidence and trust and even a competitive spirit, students around the South Florida area are finding themselves the center of the same attention high-school football receives. As seen in an NBC 6 30 minute special you can watch here.

On the surface poetry may seem like an odd outlet for the Jason Taylor Foundation but over the last ten years JTF has made huge strides in helping South Florida youth and as the spoken word festivals grow around the country, it’s only natural that the JTF would be spearheading its advancement into a mainstream competition that transcends a simple art form but instead provides an outlet for both boys and girls for self expression.
