Who is the Miami Dolphins number one receiver?

The years of Jarvis Landry running the one-man-show at wide receiver could be coming to an end. There is a certain young player that is coming to his own in the offense and slowly surpassing expectations.

Devante Parker was drafted to be the best wide receiver for Ryan Tannehill. Due to injuries and Jarvis Landry, that has not been the case. Tannehill seems to have found comfort looking for Landry across the middle or on slants and medium routes. Also having been mauled by injuries to slow each year, Parker has had trouble finding consistent chemistry with Ryan Tannehill.

But when looking at college tape, and even the pros, Devante Parker has all the makings of a stud. The man is fast. The man is large. The man can catch. The man is just waiting to find his potential and completely explode in this offense.

Is Jarvis Landry the fastest receiver on the team? Not quite. Is he the biggest? Not at all. Does he have the best catch radius? Nope. Is he a physical threat to opposing defenses? Not even close. Are his hands the best in the offense? Even that is up for grabs. Devante Parker checks all of these boxes on the field, though Jakeem Grant and Kenny Stills might slightly leg him out in a race.

By no means is this article meant to bag on Jarvis Landry. It is meant to promote the skill set of Devante Parker. If a player of Landry’s talent is capable of being the number one guy, just imagine how scary an offense could be if a player of Devante Parker’s caliber were to flourish in that role.

Whether Tannehill likes the middle of the field or not, if Parker keeps gaining more and more yardage doing his thing on the perimeter, number 17 is going to be looking towards number 11 more often. Devante Parker has all the traits to take it to the house on nearly every touch. In year three of his professional career, I would say he has his feel for how to get around an NFL defense.

Throughout the offseason, Parker has been receiving praise from offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen, which can go a long way. OTAs are now starting and the time has come for Devante Parker to show his fellow teammates and coaches what he is capable of. We’ve all seen glimpses in the past, but we are all excited to see what the future holds.

With all of the mouths in this offense to feed, it may seem impossible for Parker to find his way. But with the way the Dolphins finishing at the bottom of the league in total offensive snaps, I see Adam Gase figuring out how to keep his offense on the field and let them run more snaps. I do not see Jarvis Landry gaining many targets. In fact, with the addition of Julius Thomas, I see his targets decreasing. The extra offensive snaps should be given to Jay Ajayi to increase his workload, and also carving out some targets for Devante Parker, because we all know he deserves some extra targets.

This next season could be a great season for the Miami Dolphins offense, as they are all young and entering year two in Adam Gase’s offense.
