Phins Retain 3

UPDATE: All three contracts were for 1 year. The Dolphins held “exclusive” rights to each.
The Miami Dolphins may not be making waves in the free agent market but at least they are taking care of business. Today the Phins announced that they had signed 3 players to extensions who were restricted free agents.
Leading the list is undrafted Hawaii receiver Davone Bess. Bess has been a solid slot receiver since coming to Miami 2 years ago. TE Joey Haynos, a Phinphanatic favorite, was also re-signed. Haynos started several games last year in the abcense of Anthony Fasano and improved significantly over [...]

Ricky to Keep Running Past 2010

According to Profootballtalk.com Ricky Williams plans to keep playing past the 2010 season, Ricky’s current deal with the Miami Dolphins is worth $4.5 Million and ends after the 2010 season.
It’s unclear whether the Dolphins will be planning on bringing back Ricky but after the year he previously had it seems like he will be a great #2 running back. He will be turning 33 in a couple of months but if he has a season somewhat similar to what he did last year (1,385 yards from scrimmage, averaged 4.7 yards per carry and 11 touchdowns) then Miami would be wise [...]

No Play For Thigpen?

When it comes to NFL QB’s it’s a hit or miss project. From guys like Chad Henne to 1st round busts like Ryan Leaf over Peyton Manning. Henne has shown solid growth and promise but a lock to be the future? Not yet. So when the Phins made a trade last year for Tyler Thigpen of KC after the other Chad went down, it was a good move. A year later and many now expect Thigpen to be traded. Yet there seems to be no love for the back-up QB with starting experience, in fact, there is no play for [...]

Update: Incognito In Miami, To Stay Overnight

Good news for those hoping the Dolphins will sign Richie Incognito, the lineman will stay in Miami after his visit with Miami earlier today. The Miami Herald’s Jeff Darlington is reporting:
G Richie Incognito will stay overnight in South Florida as his agent takes over situation. Dolphins like him. It’s now a matter of how much.
I’m told Incognito’s visit has gone well so far. Team is concerned about past — but not too concerned to resist signing him for right coin.
This could mean many things, ranging from Incognito could be close to signing with the Dolphins to he simply didn’t want [...]

Fixing The Holes

The Miami Dolphins have some holes to fill. Surprised? Of course you’re not. It’s an annual thing these past few years where this regime sits tight with their cards in hand and then wait for things to unfold. This year however, with holes at OLB, NT, S, and depth issues at guard and ILB, how will they fix them? Let alone fill a vacant number 1 WR spot to boot.
I have my thoughts.
Safety: Wait for it. Simply wait for it. In Dallas, there is talk that Ken Hamlin will be cut and if that happens, the Dolphins should take a [...]

Dolphins Should Sign Incognito

This probably won’t be a popular sentiment, but I’m not here to make friends I’m here to stir up some debate. So here goes: Miami should sign Richie Incognito. Sure he’s dirty, sure he managed to get cut by the Rams and was poorly received when he was claimed by Buffalo. But clearly Miami has had an interest as they put in a claim for him last year and are hosting him this off-season.
So why should the Fins take a shot at Incognito? Well for starters he’s going to come relatively cheap. Nobody is vying for his services right now [...]

LT Signs With Jets, Nose Tackle Becomes Bigger Need

With LaDaninian Tomlinson signing with the Jets for two years it looks like nose tackle is becoming a huge need now. Also with Jason Ferguson being suspended for the first 8 games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances the Dolphins will now have to look for a big Nose tackle. I know LT hasn’t been the same player he used to be but the Jets have one of the best offensive lines and last year they lead the league in rushing yards. Randy Starks and Paul Soliai performed above expectations last season but they [...]
