Since 2010 when he first arrived in Miami, Karlos Dansby was the Dolphins defensive leader. Now that he has been cut who will step in as the new vocal leader of this new, younger Miami dolphins defense? Will it be starting middle linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, or all pro defensive end Cameron Wake?

Both of these two players would make a lot of sense to lead the 2013 Miami Dolphins. But there is another player who should step into the roll. The 5th round pick back in 2010, Reshad Jones. Up until last year he was not a very well known player. But in 2012 he had a breakout year, becoming a play making machine that the Dolphins needed in the secondary. He finished with 73 tackles, four interceptions and two forced fumbles. By the end of the year he was ranked one of the best safeties throughout the NFL, being able to make a big play whenever possible.

This is a perfect opportunity for Jones to become an even better football player. He is still very young and is yet to reach his potential on the football field, and becoming the defense leader will help both him and his teammates get stronger.

If he can become one of the leaders of the Miami Dolphin defense and we can continue to see him making more plays this season, it would not be long before Jones is being compared to some of the top safeties in the AFC like Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu.

To me, this is Reshad’s job to lose. With the defense getting younger Jones would be a perfect fit to lead this years defensive squad. I have added a poll in with the Article to see who you guys would like to see step in as Miami’s defensive leader in 2013. Thanks for reading!

Karlos Dansby is no longer a Miami Dolphin player. About an hour ago, Jeff Ireland shocked the NFL when it was announced that Miami had stolen LB Dannell Ellerbe from the Baltimore Ravens. The move came out of nowhere.

Dansby who ironically was one of the three members of the “leadership council” was never told of the move and found out shortly after the news broke. His agent contacted the Dolphins and Dansby was granted his release a short time later. For Miami, the move is a solid risk. Ellerbe is only 28 years old compared to Dansby’s 32. The contract on the surface for Ellerbe, 5 for 35 million seams very high but it actually is comparable to the leaving Dansby. In other words, on the surface it’s a pretty even swap.

Dansby led the team in tackles last season but rarely made game changing plays over the course of his stay in Miami. Ellerbe is just now reaching his prime.

The move to let Dansby goes leaves only Davone Bess from the “leadership council” with Jake Long visiting other teams and Reggie Bush is heading northward to visit Detroit.

The Miami Dolphins are the most talked about team in the NFL this afternoon. Why? Because Jeff Ireland has gone all in. With 31 plus million dollar to spend in free agency, Ireland opened the market with a 30 million dollar guaranteed amount on a 64 million dollar deal with WR Mike Wallace. He followed that up with a re-signing of safety Chris Clemons and followed that with a league wide shocker when he signed former Ravens LB Dannelle Ellerbe.

The Dolphins have not been sitting idly by. The Dolphins lost out on TE Jared Cook who reunited with former coach Jeff Fisher in Tennessee. It has been Ireland’s only miss.

For Miami, a team in need of offensive playmakers, the signing of Mike Wallace is huge. With the right slot/TE the Dolphins will find linebacker on TE coverage with Wallace stretching the field and Hartline moving the opposite side. Wallace was the player that Miami coveted but Ellerbe was the big news.

Shocking the league, they are still talking about it, the signing of Ellerbe came as a surprise because the Dolphins were set at LB. Karlos Dansby, Koa Misi, and Kevin Burnett. Shortly after the signing was made, Dansby was released. The move saved the team about 3.9 million this season in cap space and 11.4 million in 2014. The Dolphins got younger on both sides of the ball.

The question that is being asked the most however is this. Have the Dolphins done enough to make a run at New England?
