Chris Clemons, a 6-1 214 pound strong safety, was drafted during the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of the University of Clemson. Clemons was seen as a project, but an eventual starting caliber safety for any team willing to take a chance. The Miami Dolphins saw some potential and pulled the trigger. After contributing little during his rookie campaign, Clemons was handed a starting spot next to former Miami Dolphin – Yeremiah Bell. Clemons had an inconsistent season and seemed unready for his new role – if only Miami’s front office could have seen the future…Clemons was then relegated to a back-up and special teams role for the 2011 season – playing in 14 games and not starting a single one.

I’ll be honest, there were times last year and throughout training camp I was requesting that one player on our secondary get cut and be shown the door. Truth be told, I was among the few that actually thought one player (Reshad Jones) would not provide any benefit to our team. Well, today, I offer my sincere apology to one particular player, as we are now starting to see first-hand the difference an experienced Defensive Coordinator can do with raw talent.

The other day when I was hanging up some shirts in my closet, something strange suddenly dawned on me. For the first time in my life, I don’t have a jersey for any player who is currently on this 2012 Miami Dolphins team. Since we are just six weeks out from the start of preseason, it’s time for me to start thinking about my next big investment. Which current Dolphin is most worthy of a jersey purchase?

Up until now, it was always an easy decision for me to pick a jersey and wear on Sundays. Just like most fans, during the late 80’s and most of the 90’s I rocked a Dan Marino Jersey. When Marino retired, I started sporting Zach Thomas and would occasionally sprinkle in a little Ricky Williams when he was a monster during the 02’ and 03’ seasons. (more…)
