One mans look at what's out there in the market
By Brian Miller
Ben Volin writes for the Palm Beach Post and he has taken the time to look at a few players he thinks Miami should take a look at. It is only one mans opinion. Here is Volins’ blog concerning what is available out there in the free agent market as of today.
"Here are some fullbacks and tight ends, and the teams that cut them, that could intrigue the Dolphins:"
- TE O.J. Santiago, Oakland (11-year vet)
- TE Garrett Mills, New England (2006 fourth-round pick)
- TE Keith Heinrich, Tampa Bay (28-year-old F-back type)
- TE Zach Hilton, San Francisco (5-year vet had a decent 2005 season for New Orleans)
- FB Zack Crockett, Oakland (Pompano Beach native, FSU Seminole, 13-year vet)
- FB Fred Beasley, Washington (10-year vet once known as the best blocking fullback in the league)
- FB Brad Cieslak, Buffalo (3-year vet is another hybrid F-back type)
"With Cam’s strong ties to San Diego — he was the offensive coordinator there the past five years — let’s take a look at the players cut by the Chargers yesterday."
"The two offensive linemen have strong ties to Cam or Miami. Lekkerkerker, is a beast — 6-foot-7, 320 pounds — and played in 15 games last year in Cam’s offense. And Pape was the Dolphins’ 7th-round pick in 2004"
- S Tra Battle
- C Mark Bihl
- RB Eldra Buckley
- WR Greg Camarillo
- WR Mark Simmons
- DE Andre Coleman
- DE Keith Grennan
- DE Derreck Robinson
- S Bhawoh Jue
- OT Cory Lekkerkerker
- OT Tony Pape
- DT Louis Leonard
- LB Antwan Applewhite
- LB Nick Roach
- LB Jyles Tucker
"If Cam and Mueller want to look at more offensive linemen, two interesting names are tackle Brandon Gorin and center Chukky Okobi."
"Now let’s take a look at some interesting names who were cut yesterday:"
- WR Dallas Baker, Pittsburgh (Florida Gator, 2007 7th-round pick)
- QB Vinny Testaverde, New England (turns 44 in November)
- QB Byron Leftwich, Jacksonville (Jags dump their franchise QB, 7th overall pick in 2003)

- WR Courtney Roby, Tennessee (Reggie Roby’s cousin, set several receiving records at Indiana under Cameron)
- QB Tim Rattay, Tennessee (former starter in SF and TB could have some good years left)

- Jared Zabransky, Houston (Undrafted free agenty from Boise State won’t get the chance to run another Statue of Liberty)
- RB J.D. Washington, St. Louis (son of actor Denzel
"And how about a couple of interesting names who made their respective 53-man rosters:"
- K Matt Prater, Atlanta (2006 UCF grad cut by Dolphins on Aug. 27, signed with Atlanta days later and beat out Billy Cundiff for the job)
- QB Troy Smith, Baltimore (Former Ohio State star was 2007 5th-round pick and makes team as third quarterback)
