Hey SD, I will give you Chambers for Turner, what do you say?
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins have a situation on their hands. Chris Chambers. Next season he will cost almost 7 million in cap space. Earlier today I talked about the possibility of trading Chambers and Ronnie Brown, and what might their future with Miami hold.
After thinking about this today, and speaking with one of my closer Dolfan friends, an idea came to mind that might actually make sense. Trade Chris Chambers to San Diego for Michael Turner and a draft pick.
Consider that Chris Chambers is an upgrade to what SD has right now. Norv Turner knows him and Chris knows Turner. Consider that next season, Michael Turner will be a free agent and will likely leave the Chargers with nothing to show for it.
Miami may have interest in Turner, a running back that Cameron is very familiar with. With the way that Cameron is using Ronnie Brown right now, it would not be a surprise to see the Phins go after Michael in the off-season. But why wait? Kill two birds with one stone right now. Rid your team of a 7 mill cap hit next year and get the RB you want now without having to get into a bidding war.
Turner would see plenty of action as the Dolphins starter right now. If Chatman can start, then Turner certainly could. Ronnie Brown could be the spell back that he used to be at Auburn and in the off-season if Miami decides to move him, they will at least do so with a featured back who has had the entire season to learn the system…Turner.
As for SD, Chambers is worth more to them than Turner which is why I think that Miami could finagle a pick out of them as well…perhaps a 4th or 5th rounder. Certainly the Chargers have to be thinking that with a qualified receiver to go along with Gates and LT, Chambers could be a piece in the puzzle that could take them to the promised land. Plus, that pick would in all likelihood be at the end of the respective round.
This is a win-win trade for both teams. Miami is lining up under Cameron to go shopping for a new RB, Turner is there. SD has their issues with the WR, Chambers is there.
In my opinion, this makes the most sense and is something that both Cameron, Mueller, Turner, and AJ Smith should be talking about. SD will lose Turner next year without gaining anything. The only value Turner has to them right now, is the back-up if LT goes down. That is a very nice cushion to have.
